Gray whale dies bringing us a message — with stomach full of plastic trash

Whales are dying everyday because they eat to much trash. “In March of last year, a 10 meter long sperm whale washed up on Spain’s South Coast. This whale had swallowed 59 different plastic items totaling over 37 pounds. Most of this plastic consisted of transparent sheeting used to build greenhouses in Almeria and Grenada for the purpose of tomatoes for the European market. The rest was plastic bags, nine meters of rope, two stretches of hosepipe, two small flower pots, and a plastic spray canister. Cause of death was intestinal blockage.” “Whales are not the only victims to our trash. It is estimated that over one million birds and 100,000 marine mammals die each year from plastic debris.” “For some whales, theplastic does not kill the animal directly, but cause malnutrition and disease, which leads to unnecessary suffering until death.” It is so sad. SO MUCH HELP!!!

There is so much need for help it is almost imposible to write about it all! Most of the world is covered in water but it is unprotected. But people are making the Pristine Seas project. It is founded by Dr. Enric Sala. The Pristine Seas project protects the ocean’s last wild places.

Also President Obama is trying to create the world’s largest ocean preserve (shown above)! It will save a lot of endangered species. Here is a link from the NRDC to sign a petition to  help it.

SAVE WHALES FROM DEADLY SONAR!

“The Navy is prepared to kill nearly 1,000 whales and other marine mammals during the next five years of testing and training with dangerous sonar and explosives. Tell Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to direct the Navy to adopt commonsense safeguards that will protect marine mammals during routine training without compromising military readiness.”

“This mid-frequency sonar will bombard whales with noise so intense — up to 236 decibels — it can actually cause their internal organs to hemorrhage. It’s distressing that the Navy refuses to put commonsense precautions in place that could protect whales during routine training — especially because taking such steps would in no way compromise our military readiness. This is very cruel and unnecessary. There are other ways to prepare for war and not kill whales. Please sign the petition to save the whales.
